Kampfzone from Bernburg (Saale) is a German Oi! -Band that sees itself as apolitical. However, their immediate environment is very close to the right-wing rock scene.

Band history

Kampfzone was founded in 1994 under the name Erstschlag . After several changes of line-up, they succeeded in building a stable line-up with Dennis Stöber, who had previously sung with one of the first Saxony-Anhalt Oi! Bands, Hässlich . The first single Made in Germany was then published via Bandworm Records and was sung by Rene Schulze. In 1997 three songs appeared on the compilation Kraft by Oi! , on which the anti-fascist skinhead band Loikaemie , as well as several apolitical Oi! bands were represented.

Kampfzone then switched to the Dim Records label , which has a bad reputation in the Oi! And punk scene and is generally seen as a link between right-wing rock and the apolitical Oi! Scene. There the debut album was released, short hair, heavy boots and the successor Ausseneiter , before the band brought out some self-publications.

In 2002, the album was released between the fronts back on Dim Records. In 2003 a split CD was released with the Swedish right-wing rock band Steelcapped Strength . The following MCDs 2003 and COPS (2004) also appeared on the label until Kampfzone mit Bastarde (2006) briefly switched to Nordisc Records . In the same year two split EPs were released, one with the Blood & Honor- related Belgian skinhead band Les Vilains and one with the Swedish band Battle Scarred, who were also under contract with Dim Records.

The last studio album to date, Kriegsgebiet , was released in 2008 on Dim Records. In 2007 a split EP was released with the longest-serving German right-wing rock and skinhead band Endstufe .

Meaning and reception

Kampfzone is viewed by some members of the Oi! Scene as an apolitical band, but is closely linked to the right-wing extremist part of the scene. This happens through split releases, but also through appearances with openly right-wing bands such as Nordwind , Hauptkampflinie and Aufmarsch . In addition, singer Dennis Stöber performed at the NPD summer festival in Sangerhausen in 2007 together with the right-wing band Hate Soldiers . Rene Schulze, singer with Kampfzone until 1996, founded a similar band called Last Riot in 2000.

In terms of the band's self-image, Kampfzone is apolitical, but nonetheless patriotic .

There are some patriotic traits in the lyrics, for example in black, red, gold from the debut album: “ Black, red, gold . Unity and strength is our strength. Black red Gold. Unity and strength is our pride. "Also tips against the punk movement can be found quite early in the band's history, especially in the songs Hippie Punks (a German cover version of the Oi! Band Crowbar , excerpt:" Oi! -Oi! -Oi! You are hippie punks / You will be the losers ”) and the scum of the scene . Several texts are also ambiguous, so that they can also be perceived in a right-wing extremist context.
