The Kanin Peninsula ( Russian Полуостров Канин ) is in the Barents Sea which projects to Russia belonging Peninsula in north-eastern Europe .
geography
The peninsula is located at the northeastern exit of the White Sea at the transition to the Barents Sea, a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean . In the west it borders on the Mesen Bay , part of the White Sea, in the east it borders on the Choshabucht . It extends north of the western part of the North Russian Lowlands , into which it merges in the south, approximately in a north-south direction to Cape Kanin at the north-western tip. Its length is about 200 km, the southern end is 300 km northeast of the northern Russian city of Arkhangelsk .
The highest elevation on the Kanin Peninsula are the "Kanin Mountains" with a height of up to 242 m. The flora is tundra-like . The annual average temperature at Cape Kanin is −1.1 ° C , the coldest months are January and February, the warmest July and August.
Politics and culture
It belongs to the Nenets Autonomous Okrug . The Nenets , who live in Schoina and Kija, among others , breed reindeer .
