The canton of Catacora is an administrative district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The canton of Catacora is one of four cantons of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Catacora in the province of José Manuel Pando and is located in the northern part of the district. It borders in the north and west on the Republic of Peru , in the southwest on the canton Thola Khollu , in the south on the canton Pojo Pajchiri , and in the east on the municipality Santiago de Machaca .
The canton extends between 17 ° 05 '30 "and 17 ° 12' southern latitude and 69 ° 20 '30" and 69 ° 34' western latitude, it measures from north to south up to ten kilometers and from west to east up to twenty-five kilometers. The canton consists of sixteen localities ( localidades ), the central place is Catacora with 548 inhabitants ( 2012 ) in the central part of the canton.
geography
The canton of Catacora is located southwest of Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian Altiplano on the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Occidental , which here rises to around 5000 m. The climate of the region is semi-arid and a typical time of day climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuation during the day is more pronounced than during the seasonal course.
