The canton of Choro is an administrative district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The canton of Choro is one of twenty-two cantons of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Caranavi in the province of Caranavi and is located in the southernmost part of the district. It is bordered to the northwest by the Incahuara de Ckullu Kuchu canton , to the west and south by the Nor Yungas province , and to the east by the Chojña canton .
The canton extends between 15 ° 59 'and 16 ° 03' south latitude and 67 ° 31 'and 67 ° 40' west latitude, it measures up to seven kilometers from north to south and up to fifteen kilometers from west to east. The canton has nine localities ( localidades ), the central place is Choro with 117 inhabitants ( 2012 ) in the western part of the canton.

The canton of Choro is located in the Bolivian Yungas on the eastern slope of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Real . The region's climate is typical of the time of day , with mean temperatures fluctuating more during the day than during the year.
The annual precipitation here in the subtropical Yungas is 1100 mm (see Coroico climate diagram) and has a clear dry season from May to August and a rainy season from December to February. The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 20 ° C and 25 ° C, during the day it is warm in summer and pleasantly cool at night.

The population of the canton has decreased by more than a fifth between the last two censuses . While the population of the central town of Choro increased from 159 to 223 inhabitants during this period, the rural area recorded a drastic decline from 718 to 454 inhabitants at the same time.

Due to the historical population development, the Aymara population is predominant in the Municipio Caranavi , 57.8% of the population speak the Aymara language .
