The canton Harste existed from 1807 to 1813 in the district of Göttingen ( Department of the Leine , Kingdom of Westphalia ) and was formed by the Royal Decree of December 24, 1807. The canton was hardly affected by the restructuring of the district to finally determine the status of the communities in the department of the Leine on June 16, 1809. The community of Lütjenrode was split off and the organization of the communities was changed as follows.
