The canton of Soniquera is a municipality in the Department of Potosí in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Cantón Soniquera is one of thirteen cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Colcha "K" in the province of Nor Lípez . The canton is located in the southwestern border area of ​​Bolivia, it borders in the north with the canton of San Juan , in the west with the Republic of Chile , in the south and east with the municipality San Pablo de Lípez , and in the northeast with the province Enrique Baldivieso .

The canton extends between about 21 ° 24 'and 22 ° 02' south latitude and 67 ° 05 'and 68 ° 07' west longitude, it measures from north to south up to 70 kilometers, from west to east up to 100 kilometers. There are only five municipalities in the canton, the central place is Soniquera in the south-eastern part of the canton with 472 inhabitants, the mean altitude of the canton is 4400  m .

The canton of Soniquera is located in the southern part of the Altiplano on the edge of the Cordillera de Lípez .
