Kapa (also: Kaba , Kopa ) is an island in the Tongan archipelago of Vavaʻu . In 2008 Kapa had around 70 residents.

geography

Kapa is one of the larger islands in the Vavaʻu archipelago. It is located immediately south of the Ava Pulepulekai Channel and south of the main island in the center of the archipelago and is bordered on the east by the Pangaimotu peninsula and its offshore islets ( Mala , Afo , Tapana and Lautala ), on the west by the island of Nuapapu and in the south Taunga forms the extension of the ridge. Between Kapa and Nuapapu there is a bay in which the islets Aʻa and ʻOto are located. The islands of Nuku and Luakapa are also offshoots of the island . The island itself has a floor plan that is reminiscent of a hand with an outstretched index finger. It is densely forested and rises to 74  m at Mount Teisina . The northernmost point of the island is near Otea north of Luakapa. The island is also at the entrance to the port of Port Maurelle , which is the “crook of the index finger”. To the south of it lie the villages of Falevai (Vakataumai) and Kapa , directly opposite the island of Aʻa. Muihouma Point south of the villages forms the southeast corner of the island and points to Nuku, while Falewitahi rises to 88  m and Fangaata denotes the southern tip of the island.

climate

The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Vava'u group, Kapa is occasionally hit by cyclones .
