Karin Maag (born June 13, 1962 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician ( CDU ). She is a member of the German Bundestag and health policy spokeswoman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

Life

Karin Maag grew up in Botnang . After graduating from the Evangelical Mörike-Gymnasium in Stuttgart , she studied law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and passed both state exams with distinction. During her studies she met her husband Axel, with whom she lives in Stuttgart today.

In 1989 Maag became a member of the CDU. After the second state examination in 1990, she first worked as a lawyer. In 1991 she moved to the legal office of the city of Stuttgart; most recently she was deputy head of office there. In 2004, Mayor Wolfgang Schuster appointed her city director and head of his office. Maag was one of three candidates for the office of mayor for law, security and order. In the faction-internal nomination it was defeated by the then Stuttgart police chief Martin Schairer . In 2007 Maag moved to the head of the administration of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament as ministerial director.

Member of the Bundestag

Karin Maag won the direct mandate in the Stuttgart II constituency in the 2009 Bundestag election and became a member of the German Bundestag . In doing so, she prevailed against the three-time owner of the direct mandate, Ute Kumpf . On July 20, 2012, the CDU Stuttgart nominated Maag again as its constituency candidate for the 2013 Bundestag election. In the Bundestag election on September 22, 2013, she again won the direct mandate. On July 8, 2016, she was nominated again as her party's candidate for the next federal election in autumn 2017 and again won the direct mandate in the federal election on September 24, 2017.

Karin Maag has been Deputy District Chairwoman of the CDU Stuttgart since 2011.

Health working group

Karin Maag has been chairwoman of the health working group in the CDU / CSU parliamentary group since 2018 .

Committee work

In the 17th electoral term, Karin Maag was a full member of the Health Committee and the Health Subcommittee in Developing Countries. She was also a deputy member of the budget committee of the German Bundestag and the committee for women, families, senior citizens and youth . Karin Maag was secretary of the German Bundestag.

In the 18th electoral term Karin Maag is a full member of the Health Committee and a deputy member of the Budget Committee , the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection.

Memberships and volunteer work

Maag is a member of the Europa-Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag . Karin Maag is also chair of the German-Egyptian parliamentary group, a member of the German-Russian parliamentary group, the German-Indian parliamentary group and the German-Australian-New Zealand parliamentary group. For the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, she sits on the board of trustees of the "Remembrance, Responsibility, Future" foundation. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Federal President Theodor Heuss House Foundation .

On December 18, 2013, Karin Maag was elected chairwoman of the women’s group in the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. Thus she is a member of the parliamentary committee of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and representative of the group of women in this.
