Karl-Heinz Schmiel

Karl-Heinz Schmiel (born November 28, 1948 ) is a German game designer and co-founder of the game publisher Hans im Glück .

Life

Schmiel is a trained educator and studied teaching and electrical engineering. After graduating, he worked as an electrical engineer at Siemens , and later as a teacher in a day-care center.

In 1983 Schmiel and Bernd Brunnhofer planned to open a game shop, but this was not realized. In the same year they both developed the game Dodge City , which was produced in a first edition of 150 pieces. For this purpose, the two founded the Hans im Glück Verlag in Munich . In 1987 Schmiel withdrew from the publishing house and returned to his job as an educator. In 1988 he founded the Moskito Spiele publishing house in Munich , through which he distributes most of his games. Since then, it has been represented with a new development almost every year at the Essen public exhibition “Spiel” . Schmiel is still friends with Brunnhofer and at times also a tester at Hans im Glück. From 1993 to 1995 Schmiel was second chairman of the game designers guild .
