Games authors' guild
The game authors guild e. V. (SAZ; international Game Designers Association ) is the world's largest advocacy group for game designers with over 500 members .
aims
As an interest group, the association represents the rights and interests of game designers. It encourages young professionals and shall work for a strengthening of the cultural game in society. The game authors' guild is particularly interested in strengthening the rights of game authors and the recognition of analogue games as a cultural asset in Germany. For this, the association calls for the inclusion of games in the collection catalog of the German National Library (DNB) and the turnover tax equality with books, films, theater, music and other cultural products with a reduction of revenue and VAT for games of 19% to 7%.
activities
The association issues brochures called SAZ -zeichen to its members, in which important game designer topics are dealt with. For internal information, the SAZ newsletter appears every several months.
The association provides information with its own stand at the international game days in Essen, organizes workshops at the Göttingen game designer meeting , is represented at the Nürnberg Spielwarenmesse in the games café and organizes a players' party on the Friday of the fair in cooperation with the German Games Archive Nuremberg and the Ali-Baba-Spieleclub. The association is also represented with a stand at Spielwies'n in Munich.
history
The association was founded in 1991 with twelve members. It emerged from the annual game designer meeting that the Göttingen game designer Reinhold Wittig and his wife Karin Wittig had brought to life in 1983. The SAZ founding board consisted of the 1st chairman Hajo Bücken , the deputy 2nd chairman Klaus Teuber and Dirk Hanneforth as treasurer.
Since 1991 the founder of the Göttingen game authors meeting, Reinhold Wittig, and since 1996 the game reviewer and founder and former director of the German Games Archive , Bernward Thole , have been honorary members.
In 2008 the association is a member of the German Cultural Council / Council for Socioculture and Cultural Education and has been a member of the Copyright Initiative since 2013 .

*) Christian Beiersdorf took over the newly created office of managing director from 10/2015, since 8/2020 he has been a consultant for copyright issues and political communication. The new managing director has been Hans-Peter Stoll since 8/2020.
Alex Media Prize
The Alex is a journalist award of the association endowed with 1000 euros . It is named after the game designer and guild master Alex Randolph , who died in 2004 . With the price were 2,005 to 2,015 professional journalists honored by their work, the experience games and the social significance of the game - in particular the social game represent an understandable way and bring a broader public closer -.
The award is given to contributions that have been published in German language in newspapers or magazines, on the radio, on television or on the Internet (since 2006). The prize has not been awarded since 2016.
