Hans-Joachim Bücken (* 1944 in Schwiebus ; † December 30, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German journalist, game designer and author of numerous books on the subject of games . Many of his games appeared in the team with Dirk Hanneforth .

Life

Bücken grew up in Aachen and, after attending school and doing military service, completed a traineeship at the local people's newspaper from 1965 . He got a job as a journalist at Herder Verlag in Freiburg , where he worked in 1968 both as an editor for the newspaper Kontraste and as a social worker in the House of Youth . In 1973 he took a high school on the second chance education and studied at teacher in Göttingen . He passed the state examination as a secondary school teacher for German, art and politics in 1978. This was followed by an activity in the advertising industry and further training to become a game teacher .

In 1981, Bücken founded the New Games department in Bremen and began working as a game inventor . In addition to several books on the subject of games, his cooperation game Bärenspiel, first published in 1983, attracted a lot of attention and appeared on the selection list for Game of the Year . This game had a circulation of over 100,000 copies in 1992. He received the Essen spring for the best set of instructions of the year for his games twice . Bücken is one of the twelve founding members of the game designers guild and became its first chairman in 1991. His game, Schnelle Welle , published in 2003, was nominated for Children's Game of the Year 2004.
