Karl-Heinz Vesper

Karl-Heinz Vesper (born April 24, 1931 in Berlin ; † 2006 ) was a German diplomat . He was Ambassador of the GDR in the Democratic Republic of Algeria .

Life

Vesper was born as the son of the KPD functionary and later GDR diplomat Walter Vesper . In 1952 he passed the Abitur in Düsseldorf and moved to the GDR. He joined the SED and studied history at Leningrad University . In 1957 he completed his studies as a graduate historian. In 1967 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil.

Since 1957 Vesper was an employee in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). In 1958/1959 he was deputy head of the GDR trade agency in Indonesia and then until 1962 sector head in the MfAA. From 1962 to 1966 he was deputy head of the GDR commercial agency in New Delhi . From 1966 to 1968 he headed the second non-European department in the MfAA ( Southeast Asia ) and from 1968 to 1971 as consul general, the GDR consulate general in Burma . 1972/1973 he was envoy at the GDR embassy in France , then 1973/1974 sector manager in the MfAA. From 1974 to 1979 Vesper was the GDR's ambassador in Algiers . From 1979 to 1990 he worked as a sector manager in the main department of policy issues and planning at the MfAA.
