The Karl Meichelbeck Realschule (KMRS) is currently the larger of the two Realschule in Freising with around 700 students . Half of the boys and half of the girls are taught together . In 1990 the school, under municipal sponsorship, chose the Benedictine monk and historian Karl Meichelbeck as its namesake.

history

The Freising Realschule began in the 1968/69 school year with the relocation of four 7th grades and 120 students from the Moosburg State Realschule to Freising. In the following school year, the Bavarian Ministry of Culture approved the establishment of an independent secondary school in Freising. With 182 newly registered students in the founding year and the record number of 280 registrations one year later, this type of school immediately met with great demand.

Original main building of the KMRS in the Haydstrasse

From the beginning, the school saw it as its task to train young teachers. That is why the headmaster Julius Krätzschmar founded in the school year 1970/71 the activity as a seminar school, which continues to this day. The extension of the study seminar in the 1995/96 school year represented a further milestone in the history of the Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule. Since then, trainee teachers have been trained in the subjects of biology , chemistry , German , history, computer science and economics .

The spatial conditions in Haydstrasse (today: the police) were initially difficult because the school was spread over several buildings. Because of this, and due to the rapidly increasing number of students, planning for a new school building began as early as 1972. But it was not until 1988 that the new school building on Düwellstrasse could be moved into: in 1985 planning approval was granted, and in 1986 the topping-out ceremony was held . The inauguration took place on November 15, 1988. Just in time for the start of the school year, the extension building required due to the six-level Realschule (R6) could be moved into in September 2003. In addition to classrooms, there are two new computer rooms for information technology.

Next door: container as a classroom

In the 1973/74 school year, all three groups of elective subjects were offered for the first time. In order to optimally prepare the students for their future careers, the subject of computer science was introduced in the 1985/86 school year . Since 1997 the Realschule has presented itself with its own homepage on the Internet. After an application had already been made to participate in the model test for the R6, the reform of the Realschule decided in February 1999 could be introduced in Freising for the 2002/03 school year.

principal

Further classrooms were relocated to Kammergasse.

The Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule was under the same management for about a decade. Bernd Friedrich has been running the school since the 2017/18 school year.

His predecessors in office were, in chronological order:

  • 1968/69 - 1980/81: Julius Krätzschmar
  • 1981/82 - 1982/83: Johann Metzner
  • 1983/84 - 1999/00: Josef Maier
  • 2000/01 - 2007/08: Anton Brunner
  • 2008/09 - 2017/18: Christine Obermaier

School life

Impressions from the new school building

The Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule is characterized above all by a large number of extra-curricular offers. Currently, young people can take part in almost twenty electives. In addition, there are regular activities such as musical trips, company tours, visits to museums and cinemas, orientation days, teaching and study trips, themed evenings or reading competitions. In addition, there are always project days on which topics from everyday life are taken up and worked on, for example in 2008 under the motto Behavior is in .

In addition to intensifying offers such as math or English exercises or English and French conversation, the elective courses are primarily dedicated to the sporting and musical fields. A school garden is maintained under the guidance of the students. Thanks to this voluntary sponsorship, the school has already succeeded in winning sports competitions and music prizes several times. In 2008, for example, the school team of young footballers won the Bavarian championship. School teams are also trained in basketball and volleyball . A dance group performs at the annual tenth grade prom.

The musical offer extends over several choir and instrumental groups and is designed in close cooperation with the local music school . The theater group regularly (usually twice a year) brings creative, student-friendly productions onto the stage (mostly in the Freising Asam Hall).

The school has established the teacher's room principle .

Professional orientation

A special concern of the Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule is the support of the students in their career choice . In addition to the one-week internship during school, the ninth grade students visit the local career information center , they can attend appointments with career counseling and take part in application training from external providers.

Study seminar

Passage to the extension
