Karl-Peter Winters

Karl-Peter Winters (born September 7, 1944 in Wesel ) is a German lawyer , former Ministerialrat . D. and former publishing manager.

Life

Karl-Peter Winters passed his Abitur in Wesel in 1964 . After studying law in Marburg and Münster, he was a research assistant to Herbert Wiedemann at the University of Cologne . In 1976 he became a member of the government and within five years was promoted to Ministerialrat in the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

Winters, who ultimately headed the Analysis and Information, Public Relations and ghostwriter for Federal Minister of the Interior Gerhart Baum , moved to the German Bar Association in 1981 as Managing Director and a few years later also took over the position of Managing Director at the German Lawyers Publishers. The weekly newspaper Die Zeit then referred to Winters as a "miracle animal that says goodbye to the diverse needs of a civil servant."

In 1990 he then went to the legal specialist publisher Dr. Otto Schmidt , where after some time he became the sole managing director and personally liable partner. With reference to his previous career, Die Zeit referred to Winters on the occasion of this change as a member "of the extremely rare species of lawyers who have traded their secure civil service career for the risks of the free economy." Later he also became managing director of RWS Verlag , a 50% - Involvement of the publishing house Dr. Otto Schmidt. In the middle of 2010, Winters left both management boards.

At the beginning of 2012 he founded Winters Legal, a u. a. Company specializing in publishing-related services and advice. At the beginning of 2016, the company's liquidation was published in the commercial register.

Others

Winters was involved in numerous committees of the German Book Trade Association from 1996 and was chairman of the publishers' committee for six years from 2006. From 2007 to 2012 he was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade and helped to decide on the choice of award winners.

In 2004 the Faculty of Law at the University of Cologne awarded him an honorary doctorate .

At the beginning of 2008, Winters was appointed to the supervisory board of Deutsche Verrechnungsstelle AG , where he has meanwhile also been chairman.

He is also a member of the media committee of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry .
