Karl Allmenröder (pastor)

Christian Heinrich Karl Allmenröder (born October 24, 1828 in Bonbaden , † September 20, 1912 in Wetzlar ) was a Protestant clergyman and archivist .

Live and act

After 1848 stored in high school Wetzlar High School of the son of the pastor Johann Georg Martin Allmenröder began (1800 to 1873), a study of theology at the University in Halle (Saale) . After he had worked as parish vicar in Waldbreitbach , Braunfels and Werdorf , Allmenröder took up a pastor's position in Oberquembach in 1859 . From 1867 until his retirement in 1910 he was pastor in Oberbiel .

Allmenröder was interested in local history , genealogy and document research early on . At times he was also the archivist of the Prince of Solms-Braunfels and, on his behalf, carried out a reorganization of the princely archive from 1881 onwards. Allmenröder himself collected documents from the archive of the Marienstift in Wetzlar , which had been dispersed after the secularization of 1802/3. He donated part of his collection to the Princely Solms-Braunfels archive; Another he sold in 1894/95 to the Wetzlar State Archives . The Hessian Main State Archives acquired documents from Allmenröder's estate from his heirs in 1970.

On February 22, 1904, Allmenröder founded the Wetzlar History Society together with the government architect Friedrich Ebel (1872-1915) and served as its first chairman until 1911.
