Karl Anton (theologian)

Karl Anton (born June 2, 1887 in Worms , † February 21, 1956 in Weinheim an der Bergstrasse) was a German theologian , university professor of musicology and National Socialist .

Life

Anton passed his Abitur and studied Protestant theology and musicology. He was particularly interested in liturgy . After submitting a thesis on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach , he became a doctor of theology doctorate . He received a teaching position at the Badisch-Palatinate University of Music in Mannheim and qualified as professor of musicology. In his theological thinking he found connection to the völkisch - nationalistic positions of the German Christians . In 1939 he declared his collaboration with the Institute for Research and Elimination of the Jewish Influence on German Church Life . He had been a member of the NSDAP since 1930, and from 1940 he headed the Franz Hauser Archive in Weinheim (Bergstrasse). In 1952 he retired.

His estate is kept in the Darmstadt University and State Library.
