Ambrosius Petruzzy (* 1600 in Maroggia , † 1652 in Kaisersteinbruch ) was an Italian master stonemason and sculptor of the Baroque .

He was the older brother of the master stonemason Domenicus Petruzzy , both of them worked in the Kaisersteinbruch stonemason trade.

Life

Master Francesco Maderno and his wife Maria sold their house with a garden to Master Ambrosius and Lucia Petruzzy in December 1640. Petruzzy had been a member of the stonemasonry brotherhood for a long time , because in the same year 1640 he was head of the quarter store of master stonemasons and masons in the imperial quarry.

In the 1640s, the Viennese Bauhütte energetically demanded from the Kaisersteinbruch masters to part with the Wiener Neustädter handicraft and to turn to Vienna, otherwise they would have great difficulties with their Viennese commissions. In a letter to the Viennese master stonemasons to Abbot Michael Schnabel from Heiligenkreuz as authorities in March 1641 puts it ... the Heiligenkreuzer subject Ambrosius Petruzzy that of Klosterneuburg sold, now before the Carinthian Gate also set up a workshop ...

Master in Kaisersteinbruch and in Vienna

Subsequent masters were also members of the Wiener Bauhütte and the Kaisersteinbrucher Brotherhood. In the register of November 1644, the fees for Viennese master stonemasons as well as journeyman for the collection of the new imperial freedoms are specified, a master 45 kreuzer , a journeyman 15 kreuzer. It follows:

  • Pietro Maino Maderno hunted for himself and four journeymen - 1 guilder 45 kreuzers
  • Hieronymus Bregno hunts for himself and a journeyman - 1 guilder
  • Antonius Purisol slays July 31st for himself and two journeymen - 1 guilder 15 kreuzers
  • Hans Herstorffer shot July 31 for him and his three journeymen - 1 guilder 30 kreuzers
  • Peter Concorz hunts for him and his seven journeymen - 2 guilders 30 kreuzers
  • Ambrosius Petruzzy killed September 5th for himself and two journeymen - 1 guilder 15 kreuzers

Quarry lease

In March 1643, Petruzzy wrote a request to the abbot, ... the manager in the royal court is asking for 20 guilders in interest every year because of my small quarry, ... other subjects who have much larger quarries will not give more than 2 guilders to 30 kreuzers ... . The abbot decided that he had to hand out 15 Reichstaler or a beautiful door frame every year (that's half).

Stone carving in the Michaelerkirche in Vienna

The Viennese Bauhütte decided in May 1644 in the dispute between the masters Ambrosius Petruzzy and Antonius Purisol , both from Kaisersteinbruch, that Master Petruzzy should keep the stonemason St. Michael alone. From now on, no master will be allowed two huts, nor will two masters be approved in one hut.

In the Vesperbildkapelle you can find your chapel under directory and issues for our women :

First of all, 309 guilders gave 45 kreuzers to master mason Antonius Carlone for the chapel
the master Ambrosius Petruzzy paid the rest (!) with 33 guilders
the master Ambrosius Petruzzy for the outer season 27 guilders .

Petruzzy becomes teacher of Andreas Provin from Spital am Pyhrn

The Viennese construction works announced in October 1644 that master stonemason Giacomo Provino ( Jacopo Provin ) from Spital am Pyhrn asks to send his son Andreas Provin to apprenticeship with master stonemason Ambrosius Petruzzy, a citizen of Vienna, for the next three years. He had previously studied with himself for three and a half years, but because of weakness he was sure of the fatal exit .

death

Ambrosius Petruzzy died in 1652, leaving behind debts. So the quarry came to his brother Domenicus Petruzzy, who paid the debts.
