Karl August Hess

Karl August Hess (born September 30, 1800 in Gotha ; † March 1, 1871 ibid) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

The son of a Governing Council , studied Hess after attending high school in Gotha law in Jena . During his studies he became a member of the original fraternity in 1818/19 . After completing his studies, he became an accessist in 1822 and in 1824 council registrar with the Gotha City Council as well as an official and court advocate and notary . In 1828 he became chief tax secretary and from 1829 also administered the courts of Großenbehringen . In 1832 he became the first mayor of Gotha. In 1835 he was employed in Gotha as a government and tax councilor in the senior tax committee. In 1837 he became a secret assistant councilor, in 1844 a secret councilor of state. He was commissioner for theater and band affairs. In 1846 he became head of department in the State Ministry of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha and in 1849 President of the finance department of the new state government. In 1858 he resigned from this office and was administrator of the Lichtenberg entail until 1867 . In 1867 he finally retired and was appointed privy councilor with the title of Excellency .

He was married to Emilie Caroline nee Weber. His son was Richard Hess .
