Karl Backes

Karl Backes (born January 23, 1837 in Hattenrod ; † February 12, 1909 in Darmstadt ; full name Georg Karl Backes ) was a Hessian politician ( NLP ) and a former member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Karl Backes was the son of the teacher Carl Georg Backes (1807–1871) and his wife Charlotte nee Heitz. Karl Backes, who was a Protestant, was married to Anna Maria, née Back.

Karl Backes was a teacher by profession. He was initially a candidate for a school administration, from 1865 owner of the 2nd Protestant school in Ober-Eschbach , from 1873 owner of the 2nd Protestant school there and from 1882 teacher at the elementary school in Darmstadt.

From 1898 to 1902 he was a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates as a National Liberal MP. He was elected in the constituency of Starkenburg 13 / Griesheim .
