Karl Boekholt

Karl Boekholt (born January 8, 1902 in Kassel , † August 1, 1983 in Eutin ) was a German crop scientist and plant breeder.

Karl Boekholt, son of Johann Wilhelm Boekholt (1861–1946) and Helene Boekholt, b. Börner (1872–1940), studied agriculture at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen from 1920 . In 1922 he was reciprocated in the Corps Hildeso-Guestphalia Göttingen . With a doctoral thesis with Otto Tornau , he received his doctorate in 1927 in Göttingen. He then worked for two years as a seed breeding manager in the province of Saxony . From 1929 to 1934 he was an assistant at the Institute for Plant Cultivation and Plant Breeding of the Prussian Agricultural Experimental and Research Institute in Landsberg / Warthe. Here he mainly dealt with questions of grain cultivation and with wheat variety experiments.

In 1934/35 Boekholt worked as an assistant at the Institute for Crop Production at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . In 1935 he received an assistant position at the Institute for Agriculture and Agricultural Policy at the University of Berlin , headed by Konrad Meyer . In 1937 he completed his habilitation there. As a private lecturer , he taught in Berlin for three years. 1941–1945 he was full professor and director of the Institute for Arable and Plant Production at the University of Posen . After 1945 Boekholt worked as a seed breeding manager, initially at the Endreß seed breeding company in Horlachen (district of Stammbach ) and from 1955 to 1971 at Dr. hc R. Carsten in Bad Schwartau (Ostholstein). Here he was instrumental in the breeding of new wheat varieties. In 1972 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services in the field of seed breeding .
