Karl C. King
Karl Clarence King (born January 26, 1897 in Plevna , Reno County , Kansas , † April 16, 1974 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1957 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Karl King attended Bucklin High School and the Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia . He then studied at Columbia University in New York City . He then graduated from the Wharton School in Philadelphia. During the First World War he served in the US Navy . In the following years he worked as a newspaper reporter in Kansas City , New York City and Philadelphia. He later worked in agriculture in Morrisville . There he also sold agricultural supplies. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .
After the death of MP Albert C. Vaughn , King was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the eighth seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1951. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1957 . During this time, among other things, the Korean War and the beginning of the civil rights movement fell . In 1956 he renounced another candidacy.
After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Karl King withdrew from politics . He passed his old age on his farm near Morrisville and died on April 16, 1974 in Philadelphia.
