Karl Christoffel

Karl Christoffel (born January 29, 1895 in Ürzig ; † July 2, 1986 ibid) was a German historian , writer , poet and politician ( CDU ).

Education

Christoffel attended the primary school in Ürzig and passed his Abitur at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Trier in 1914 . From 1914 to 1916 he was a participant in the First World War (most recently as a non-commissioned officer). From 1916 to 1920 Christoffel studied philology, German and French and economics at the Universities of Münster and Cologne . He completed his studies in 1920 with the state examination and received his doctorate in 1922. phil. with the history of viticulture at St. Maximin Abbey in Trier from the 7th to the 18th century and in 1923 as Dr. rer. pole. with The Kurtrierische viticulture and wine trade policy since the 16th century and at the same time became a business graduate in Cologne.

From 1924 to 1945 he was head of the Army Technical Schools for Administration and Economics in Langensalza, Stuttgart, Constance, Ludwigsburg, Berlin and Potsdam. In 1942 he became senior director of studies. During the Second World War he was an army officer in the Army High Command (education and instruction department).

In 1945 he became a co-owner of the winery and wine shop Peter Nicolay KG. He also worked as a freelance writer. From 1959 to 1967 he was a deputy member of the Constitutional Court and the Higher Administrative Court of Rhineland-Palatinate .

politics

Christoffel joined the CDP after 1945 , which later became the regional association of the CDU Rhineland-Palatinate . In 1946 he became a member of the Ürzig municipal council and the Wittlich district council, and from 1948 first district deputy.

He was a member of the Advisory State Assembly in 1946/47 and was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament until 1959 . In the first electoral term in the state parliament he was chairman of the cultural policy committee (from August 5, 1948), and a member of the legal, procedural and petitions committee, electoral review court, economic and transport committee and intermediate committee. In the second electoral term he was chairman of the cultural policy committee and a member of the main committee and the legal and procedural committee. In the third electoral term he was chairman of the cultural policy committee and member of the viticulture and wine industry committee and interim committee.

In addition, from 1948 to 1963 he was a member and temporarily chairman of the broadcasting council of the SWF and a member of the administrative board of the Kreissparkasse.

Awards

Karl Christoffel was an honorary member of the Society for the History of Wine, a founding member and first brotherhood master of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Wine Brotherhood from 1970 to 1971, then Honorary Brotherhood Master, holder of the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (1959) and holder of the German Wine Culture Prize 1961.
