Karl Eidlitz

Karl Eidlitz (born October 26, 1894 in Vienna , † September 26, 1981 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor, theater director and dramaturge.

Life

Eidlitz came to the Burgtheater in 1919 and was a member of it until his death, apart from a stay in Switzerland from 1938 to 1945. He played Jakob in Carl Rössler's Die five Frankfurter , Clitander in Der Menschenfeind , Hilarius in Der böse Geist Lumpacivagabundus , Kosinsky in Die Räuber , Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream , Flitterstern in Der Verschwender , Rudenz in Wilhelm Tell and Lucien in Jean Anouilh's Colombe .

From 1931 director, Eidlitz was one of the co-founders of the Burgtheaterstudios in the 1930s. He designed numerous matinees and readings and organized guest performances in the castle at the Bregenz Festival after the Second World War . In 1954 he became director of the Burgtheater and from 1974 was its doyen . He also acted in several film and television productions. Eidlitz was married to the actress Alma Seidler .
