Karl Engel , also Carlo Angelini (* around 1640 in Monticello ; † after 1702), was a Baroque builder from Graubünden .

Life

He or his family came from Monticello in the Misox Valley in Graubünden . He was a younger brother of the Graubünden master builder Jakob Engel , who was the prince-bishop's master builder in Eichstätt . In 1664 Karl supposedly came to Eichstätt from Bologna . In 1666 he created a model of the Theatinerkirche in Munich as a “Khüstler journeyman”, ie as a cabinet maker (= Kistler) . 1675, now master, he built on the side altars of the Benedictine -Klosterkirche St. Walburg Eichstaett. From 1677 he worked in Abenberg , where he helped his brother to rebuild the monastery church of the Marienburg and participated in the reconstruction of the monastery building as a construction manager. The plans for the construction of the water supply pipe (1680) were also his work; however, he was not allowed to build it because of the high costs.

1679-1687 he was the construction management in reconstruction of the castle Oettingen held, where he did not follow the cracks was able to work his brother Jacob, which he had already submitted in 1680, but the plans of the Württemberg architect Mathias White had to implement. In addition, in 1680/81 he renewed the parish church in Ornbau in Central Franconia according to his brother's plans and in 1684/85 supplied draft drawings for the portal and altars of the Berching parish church . In 1693, when he had probably already moved to Ellingen , he stayed at Oettinger Castle again to build a new kitchen fireplace.

From 1698 to 1701 he was active in the construction of the Ellingen Teutonic Order Palace - in which function is not known; in any case, he received 50 guilders per quarter. The last message from him comes from 1702, when he and his brother delivered an appraisal for the reconstruction of the not yet completed but collapsed vestibule of Schleissheim Palace ; both discovered a large number of technical errors.
