The Princely Residence Palace in Oettingen was built between 1679 and 1687 and is privately owned by the zu Oettingen-Spielberg family .

The construction management had Karl Engel , brother of the Eichstättischen prince-bishop master builder Jakob Engel .

In the so-called Golden Room , pictures are exhibited alongside Rococo furniture, including the portrait of the Princess zu Oettingen-Wallerstein, who was the lady-in-waiting to Empress Maria Theresa . In the Red Room you can see furniture from the 18th century together with a faience stove and the portrait of Duchess Christine Luise von Oettingen-Oettingen , the grandmother of Empress Maria Theresa. The Golden Salon was designed by Mathias Schmuzer from Wessobrunn with a baroque stucco ceiling , the walls are decorated with rococo stucco. The large portrait shows Johann Aloys I. zu Oettingen-Spielberg , who was raised to the rank of prince in 1734. He was the nephew of the builder of the castle. The stucco by Mathias Schmuzer is also predominant in the ballroom. Due to the acoustics of the hall, the Oettinger Residence Concerts take place here in summer .
