Tapfheim Castle is located on an artificially created hill in the south of the municipality of Tapfheim in the Donau-Ries district . It was originally surrounded by a moat.

history

From 1515 Hieronimus von Croaria owned the castle and village of Tapfheim. Different owners followed. In 1692, the acquired Monastery Kaisheim the Hofmark Tapfheim for 80,000 florins by Count Jacob de Hamilton . In 1730, Abbot Roger II. Röls had a new castle built in place of the old one, which is still in its old splendor today. Ulrich von Höchst acquired the building in the 18th century. In the course of secularization , Tapfheim Castle came into secular hands. From 1820 to 1991 it was owned by the Waiß family.

Building description

The two-storey stately building is bounded in the north and south by gables with volutes on two storeys and horizontally divided by three heavy, profiled cornices. On the western front there is a round arched central portal, flanked by pilasters with a cranked cornice and entablature pieces, on which there are gable segments. All windows of the Gabüses are rectangular and without walls. On the southwest corner there is an inscription stone above the base with the initials: RAZK These stand for Roger Abt zu Kaisheim.
