Karl Feiden

Karl Feiden (born July 22, 1934 ) is a pharmacist , specialist pharmacist for public health, food chemist and consultant in various state and federal ministries.

Life

Feiden studied pharmacy after training as a food chemist and received his doctorate in 1963 from the University of Bonn. Until 1965 he was responsible for the pharmacy, drug and food sector at the Koblenz district government and carried out operational monitoring in pharmacies, pharmaceutical wholesalers and industrial companies. He then moved to the “Pharmacy and Poisons” department at the Federal Ministry of Health . In 1972 he was transferred to the Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart and appointed to the ministerial council, until 1973 he was head of department for pharmaceuticals and food in the state government of Baden-Württemberg.

He then headed the “Development, Production, Approval and Quality Control of Medicinal Products” department at the Federal Ministry for Youth, Family and Health . He participated in various regulations relating to the training of pharmaceutical personnel. He was entrusted with the technical preparation of the reform of the drug law, which led to the drug law of 1976 . The focus of his work was then the harmonization of pharmaceutical law in Brussels .

Most recently he was a member of the Board of Directors of the European Medicines Agency in London . For 30 years he has been working professionally on the twelve-volume commentary on drug law Kloesel / Cyran and is the editor of the ten-volume collection "Drug Testing Guidelines".

Feiden initiated the introduction of the Good Manufacturing Practice rules in the operating regulations for pharmaceutical companies.

Awards

Feiden is the bearer of the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany as well as the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria . Furthermore, he was awarded the Walter Cyran Medal of the German Society for Regulatory Affairs in 2002.
