Karl Friedrich Stumpf-Brentano

Karl Friedrich Stumpf-Brentano (born August 13, 1829 in Vienna ; † January 12, 1882 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian historian .

Life

Since 1862 he was with Maria Magdalena, geb. Brentano (1841-1919), whose family name he was allowed to add to his name from 1873, married. After attending the Piarist high school in Totis , he studied law at the University of Olomouc and in Vienna (1850/1851), where he switched to studying history.

After studying documents in Berlin , he went to Johann Friedrich Böhmer in Frankfurt am Main , where he dealt with the history of urban privileges. From 1856 to 1859 he taught as an associate professor for Austrian history at the Law Academy in Pressburg and was then given leave of absence for scientific work while retaining the title of professor. From 1861 he taught as full professor for general history and historical auxiliary science at the University of Innsbruck .
