Friedrich Carl Ernst Freiherr von Zehmen (born April 3, 1720 in Aurach , † December 13, 1798 in East Prussia ) was a German auxiliary bishop , cathedral provost , vicar general and official general .

family

Von Zehmen came from the old Meissen-Saxon noble family von Zehmen . His father Johann Friedrich converted to the Roman Catholic Church on January 15, 1706 and served as Privy Councilor for the Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt , his mother was Sophie Charlotte Marie Freiin Knebel von Katzenellenbogen . He attended the Collegium Germanicum in Rome and on August 31, 1747 was Canon of Frauenburg . In 1764 he was named titular bishop of Lete and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Warmia . On August 3, 1765 he became provost of the cathedral and as such experienced in 1772 the removal of the principality of Warmia by Prussia . In 1776 he was given the rich parish of Thiergarten and, after having been diocesan administrator repeatedly , he became vicar general in 1795 and general official a year later . In 1797 he fell so seriously ill that he had to resign from his position as auxiliary bishop and died ten days after his successor was appointed on December 13, 1798.
