Karl Greib

Karl Greib (born September 5, 1899 in Amöneburg , † April 24, 1976 in Bad Kissingen ) was a German politician ( CSU ).

Life and work

Greib graduated from elementary school in his hometown Amöneburg and after an internship in a construction company attended the construction school. In 1917/18 he took part in the First World War as a soldier . After attending the Christian Social School in Königswinter in 1923 , he worked as a union secretary for the Christian unions in Frankfurt am Main , Aschaffenburg and, from 1925, in Würzburg , where he was also a member of the administrative advisory board of the local employment office and the social advisory board of the district council. After the National Socialists smashed the trade unions in May 1933, he lost these activities and initially worked for an insurance company before he was able to start his own food retail business in 1934. From 1939 to 1945 he was a soldier in World War II .

From 1946 Greib was chairman of the Lower Franconian retail association and was also a member of the board of the regional association of Bavarian retailers. He was also a member of the Presidential Council of the Central Association of German Retailers .

On May 9, 1961 he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit at the suggestion of the Bavarian Prime Minister .

Political party

After the end of the war, Greib was a member of Adam Stegerwald's staff and took part in the founding of the CSU in Lower Franconia , of which he was initially managing director. In 1949 he took over the chairmanship of the Lower Franconian district association, which he led until 1957. At the same time he was also a member of the regional executive committee of the Christian Socialists. As a delegate of the Bavarian State Parliament, Greib was a member of the first Federal Assembly , which elected Theodor Heuss as the first German Federal President in 1949 .

From 1950 to 1962 Greib was a member of the Bavarian state parliament . From 1958 to 1962 he was deputy chairman of the committee for economy and transport of the state parliament. He particularly campaigned for the improvement of the road conditions in Lower Franconia, since in his opinion the poor roads primarily impaired tourism . He was also a member of the Lower Franconia District Assembly from 1952 to 1954.
