Karl Hahn (engineer)

Karl Hahn (born February 26, 1899 in Ulm ; † November 7, 1960 in Munich ) was a German mechanical engineer and acting rector of the Dresden University of Technology .

Life

Hahn graduated from high school in Ulm in 1917 and then studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich until 1922 . After a short time in industry, from 1928 on, he worked for five years as an assistant at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . In 1934 Hahn was appointed professor of fluid flow machines at Tongji University . Hahn received his doctorate from 1935 to 1939 at the Institute for Turbomachines of the TH Karlsruhe with his thesis The investigation of the flow through a vane turbine with different numbers of blades and was from 1939 professor for flow machines and fluid mechanics at the Technical University of Dresden . He succeeded Emil Sörensen , who had held the professorship since 1932.

Hahn became head of the Institute for Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Mechanics at the TH Dresden and was also the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from 1944 to 1945 . In 1945 Hahn, who was a member of the NSDAP, was initially deputy to the rector of the TH Dresden Wilhelm Hermann Jost , before he was provisionally appointed rector of the university in May 1945, but resigned from the office in July 1945 at the instigation of the state government of Saxony . Hahn was dismissed as part of the denazification of the TH Dresden in autumn 1945 and initially went into industry. Among other things, he worked for the Ministry of Transport Machinery in the Soviet Union . In 1954 Hahn was appointed to today's professorship for hydraulic engineering and water management at the TH Munich. During his time, among other things, he built an air test stand for investigations on bulb turbines . From 1957 to 1958 Hahn was also a visiting professor at the İstanbul Teknik University . Hahn died in Munich in 1960.
