Karl Hauer
Karl Hauer (born October 20, 1875 in Gmunden ; † August 17, 1919 ) was an Austrian journalist and publicist from the circle of friends of Karl Kraus and Georg Trakl .
Life
Karl Hauer came from a wealthy family in Salzburg and lived a bohemian and bourgeois life.
Georg Trakl had been acquainted with him since 1911. He worked in the circle of the Innsbruck literature and art society Pan , founded in 1898 by Anton Renk under the impression of reading one of the most important magazines of Berlin Modernism , into which his former piano teacher August Brunetti-Pisano (1870-1943), Salzburg composer and co-founder of the latter Society. Trakl appears to have willingly followed Hauer in all kinds of debauchery.
Hauer's publications (1910 the collection of essays On Happy and Unhappy People ) attest to a dialectical and sharp intelligence in their tendency towards culture and society. He made frequent contributions to the Viennese magazine Die Fackel and most likely established the first contact between its publisher, Karl Kraus, and the architect Adolf Loos , with whom Trakl was on friendly terms in Vienna from 1913, while Hauer remained an episode for him, although he was him dedicated the poem to "All Souls".
The brilliant and morbid polemicist succumbed to consumption in 1919.
