Karl Haupt
Carl Joachim Thomas Haupt (born August 12, 1829 in Kottwitz , Sagan district , † May 29, 1882 in Lerchenborn near Liegnitz ) was a pastor and folklorist .
After attending the community school and grammar school in Görlitz , Karl Haupt studied theology in Leipzig from 1851 to 1853. From 1853 to 1854 he attended the University of Halle and did military service. He was a teacher in Hamburg from 1856 to 1858 , from 1860 to 1864 a teacher at the Magdalenenstift in Altenburg and finally from 1864 a pastor at the Protestant church in Lerchenborn.
Karl Haupt is best known for his two-volume Lusatian saga (1862/1863), with which he won a prize from the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences . He also published essays and writings on the history of antiquity. He was also engaged in archaeological and paleontological research. His paleontological collection went to the University of Wroclaw .
He was a member of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences.
