Karl Heinrich Caspari

Karl Heinrich Caspari (born February 16, 1815 in Eschau , † May 10, 1861 in Munich ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman , theologian and writer .

Life

Caspari was the son of Eschauer pastor Wilhelm Daniel Caspari, who worked there from 1814 to 1847, and his wife Elisabeth, born Heyl (1780–1847). Karl Heinrich had three siblings, including Friedrich, who became an opera singer.

Caspari first attended school in Eschau, then the high schools in Aschaffenburg , Nuremberg and Schweinfurt . He then studied theology and philology at the University of Erlangen and completed the preacher's seminar in Munich. In 1839 he started the vicariate in Würzburg before he accepted a position as pastor and religion teacher in Kissingen , from June 1, 1844 to 1848 in Sommerhausen .

Caspari married Sophie Vogel in 1844 while still in Kissingen . The sons Walter and Alfred emerged from the marriage. Walter became a theologian, university preacher and theology professor in Erlangen.

After his father's death on August 19, 1847, Caspari returned to Eschau at the request of the local community. He worked there until September 1852 when he moved to a pastor's position in Kulmbach . He worked in Kulmbach from September 1852 to October 1855. He was then appointed second Protestant pastor of Munich. He stayed here until his death. He was buried in the old south cemetery.

He achieved great literary successes with his writings and especially with his catechism . Some of them appeared in over ten editions.

The theology professor Walter Caspari was his son, Wilhelm Caspari his grandson.
