Karl Herbst (born October 20, 1944 in Vienna ; † April 10, 2015 there ) was an Austrian TV, film and stage actor, opera singer, presenter and speaker.

Live and act

He completed his training in Vienna with Emmy Funk and Brunmüller . He played at the Theater an der Wien , the Vienna Chamber Opera , the Burgtheater , the Volkstheater , the Seefestspiele Mörbisch and worked for over 30 years at the Vienna Volksoper . He embodied theater roles in works by William Shakespeare , Johann Nestroy and Georg Büchner, among others .

Since 2001 he has been a choir member at the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl with various solo assignments as bass in operettas such as Fatiniza by Franz von Suppè , Die Csárdásfürstin by Emmerich Kálmán , Der fidele Bauer by Leo Fall , The Gypsy Baron by Johann Strauss , The Begging Student by Carl Millöcker and Eva , The Merry Widow , The Tsarevich and Franz Lehár as well as in musicals with Gigi and Hello, Dolly!

From 1987 onwards, he was the speaker for the audio library of the Austrian Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired . Among other things, he spoke the book Utopia by Thomas More and shortly before his death Two Gentlemen on the Beach by Michael Köhlmeier .

In 2014, as a long-term employee and speaker of the audio library, Herbst was awarded the silver merit pin of the Austrian Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired (BSVÖ) on the occasion of the appearance of his 100th production .
