Karl Hoffmann (police officer)

Karl Hoffmann (born August 7, 1887 in Nienburg / Weser , † December 20, 1970 in Kassel ) was a German senior police officer and SS leader, most recently major general of the police and SS brigade leader .

Life

Hoffmann finished his school career in Dessau in 1907 with the Abitur and then embarked on the career of a professional soldier in the Prussian Army . After he was stationed with pioneer battalions in Stettin and Cologne , he completed a two-year course at the Charlottenburg Military Technical Academy . From February 1913 he was employed as an adjutant in a pioneer battalion and in the command of the pioneers of the VII Army Corps in Münster. From August 1914 he took part in the First World War as an adjutant and company commander with pioneer regiments , most recently with the rank of captain of the pioneers at the General Command of the IV Army Corps and adjutant commander of the Pioneers of the VII Army Corps in Münster.

After the end of the war he was taken over to the security police of the province of Saxony and was adjutant of the Halle (Saale) group until the end of March 1923 . In April 1923 he was promoted to police major and sent to Harburg-Wilhelmsburg . From there he switched to the police in Breslau in 1927 and in 1932 as an inspection officer at the police station in Cologne.

After the National Socialist " seizure of power " Hoffmann became a member of the NSDAP in early May 1933 ( membership number 2.125.067). In Cologne he was promoted to colonel in 1935 and has held the post of commander of the police there ever since. From the beginning of October 1936 to the end of July 1937 he was inspector of the Ordnungspolizei (ITE) in the province of Hessen-Nassau with headquarters in Kassel. From mid-August 1937 to December 1940 he was ITO Bayern-Süd and immediately after the annexation of Austria in personal union for a few weeks ITO Innsbruck. In April 1939 he was accepted into the SS with the rank of Standartenführer (SS No. 323.877). From December 1940 to the end of September 1943 he was IdO in military district IX with headquarters in Kassel. He retired in early October 1943. No information is available about his further life.
