Karl Holzhey

Karl Holzhey (born February 18, 1863 in Munich ; † December 28, 1943 there ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian, Old Testament scholar and university professor.

Life

After studying philosophy and theology, Holzhey was ordained a priest in 1888. He then worked as a temporary priest in Sankt Benedikt in Munich , from 1889 he worked as a chaplain in Munich-Haidhausen. In 1891 he became a chaplain in the district insane asylum in Munich. He received his doctorate in 1895, followed by his habilitation in 1897 . From 1900 he was professor for Old Testament exegesis at the Royal Lyceum in Passau, the forerunner of the Philosophical-Theological University of Passau (now University of Passau ), from 1903 professor for Old Testament exegesis, introduction to the Old Testament, biblical archeology and biblical-oriental languages ​​at the Royal Lyceum Freising, the forerunner of the Philosophical-Theological University of Freising . In 1918 he took over the role of president of the Catholic workers' association in the Freising district. In 1929 he retired.
