Karl Joseph Schott

Karl Joseph Schott (born May 12, 1820 in Lehmen ( Cochem district ), † January 19, 1905 in Strasbourg ) was royal Prussian major general and most recently department head in the engineering committee.

His parents were the major a. D. Peter Joseph Schott († June 15, 1842 in Koblenz) and his wife Christiana Regina Löhrl († May 23, 1857 in Mainz).

Life

He received his education at the grammar school in Wetzlar and in the boarding school of Vicar Cornely in Koblenz. Then he went on October 20, 1837 as a one-year volunteer in the 8th pioneer department. On October 1, 1838, he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . There he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on September 26, 1839, and on November 4, 1840, he was aggregated as a second lieutenant in the 3rd engineer inspection . He came to the 7th Engineer Department on September 16, 1841 and was assigned an engineer officer on March 28, 1844. On October 1, 1844, he came to the 2nd Reserve Pioneer Company in Mainz . He went on April 20, 1847 for fortification services in the Cologne fortress and on March 4, 1848 for fortification services in the Jülich fortress . But on April 20, 1849, he became adjutant of the 6th fortress inspection. On December 31, 1850 he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant and on October 12, 1852 transferred to the 7th Engineer Division. Promoted to captain on October 1, 1853, on November 28, 1858, he was commander of the 1st Company of the 4th Engineer Division. Subsequently, on September 3, 1859, he was transferred to the 1st engineer inspection and transferred as a teacher in the artillery and engineering school. On March 5, 1863, he was appointed a member of the Examination Board for Captains and Premier Lieutenants of the Engineer Corps. Sent to the fortresses of Antwerp and Lille from August 12, 1862 to October 8, 1862 . On June 2, 1863 he came to the 2nd engineering inspection and as an engineer officer from the square to the fortress Wittenberg . But on May 3, 1864, he was appointed major and transferred to Wesel Fortress as an engineer officer. From September 5 to September 19, 1864 he was commanded to Antwerp.
From October 15, 1867 to January 22, 1868, the sick Colonel Neuland was in charge of managing his business as an inspector of the 6th fortress inspection. He rose to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1868 and to colonel on July 26, 1870. On November 5, 1870, he became an engineer officer at the Metz fortress square . He was then commissioned on December 20, 1870 to explore the area around Longwy and was then on January 9, 1871 with the Siege Corps Krenski of Longwy. He returned to Metz on January 27, 1871 and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class on March 4, 1871 .

After the war he became inspector of the 9th fortress inspection on June 24, 1871 and inspector of the 6th fortress inspection on April 12, 1873. On January 18, 1874, he received the Red Eagle Order, 3rd class with ribbon, and on April 16, 1874, he joined the engineering committee as department head. On June 9, 1874, he also became a member of the examination committee of the engineering corps. On October 16, 1874, he was given the status of major general and was put up for disposal with a pension . He died in Strasbourg on January 19, 1905.

His assessor wrote on January 1, 1870: Scientifically very educated and eager to expand his knowledge. He has a great routine in project planning and is very skilled in written work. In his current position, he has contributed significantly to the improvement of the fortresses entrusted to him through great activity.

family

Schott married Henriette Albertine Jäger (April 21, 1819 - October 2, 1884), a daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Franz Arnold Jäger, in Frankfurt am Main on April 23, 1846 . The couple had a son: Georg Heinrich Arnold (born October 17, 1851 in Cologne, † Nov. 18, 1916 in Berlin).
