Karl Joseph Graf Hadik von Futak (born October 28, 1756 in Leutschau , Hungary, † July 24, 1800 Alessandria ) was an Austrian Lieutenant Field Marshal and troop leader in the coalition wars .

Life

As the second son of Field Marshal Andreas Hadik von Futak , he joined the imperial army at the age of 17. Promoted to captain on March 1, 1776 , he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession .

In 1779 he became a major in his father's regiment (the later Hussar Regiment No. 6), in 1784 lieutenant colonel and in 1789 colonel . He took leave of his regiment for the Turkish War, made him a volunteer and distinguished himself in front of Belgrade .

From 1790 he was back with his regiment in the Austrian Netherlands . In 1792 he was able to earn such merits from Maubeuge and Berlaimont (September 29) and also from Wattignies (October 15) that he was awarded the Order of Maria Theresa . In 1794 he became major general and in 1796 a field marshal lieutenant . In 1796 he proved himself again, especially on August 24th in the Battle of Amberg , on September 3rd in the Battle of Würzburg and on September 6th near Aschaffenburg . Now he also received the Order's Commander 's Cross. In the campaign of 1799 in northern Italy, he distinguished himself in the battle of Novi (November 6th), as well as the next year in Romano (May 26th, 1800).

In the Battle of Marengo on June 14, 1800, he commanded the center's first main column. He was badly wounded in the bitter fighting over the Fontanone stream. He was brought back to Alessandria by his soldiers , where a few weeks later, on July 24, 1800, at the age of 43, he succumbed to his serious injuries.

The former barracks of the Austrian Armed Forces in Fehring was named after him.
