Karl Keim

Karl Keim (born July 23, 1899 in Obertürkheim ; † April 13, 1988 in Ulm ) was a member of the Württemberg state parliament , German communist resistance fighter against National Socialism , prisoner in Buchenwald concentration camp and member of the board of the VVN Baden-Württemberg .

Life

Keim was initially a metal worker in Göppingen , and later until 1939 a worker at Robert Bosch GmbH in Feuerbach .

After completing his professional training , he joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and was involved in the Weimar Republic against the national-conservative and ethnic enemies of the republic. In 1932 he was elected to the Landtag of the Free People's State of Württemberg . After the transfer of power to the NSDAP , he was taken into “ protective custody ” in 1933 and sentenced to prison several times . In 1938 he was sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp. After some time he became a Kapo of the Camp Protection Work Command and participated as a member of the illegal German military section of the International Military Organization (IMO). In April 1945, 100 prisoners belonged to the camp protection.

When the Nazi rule was eliminated, he returned to his home in Württemberg. He was employed in the Württemberg-Baden regional office for the politically persecuted and took part in the work of remembrance politics in line with the legacy of the liberated prisoners from Buchenwald. Keim was one of the founders of the Interzonal Advisory Council of the VVN from May to December 1947 and in 1948 on the VVN Council to coordinate the work of all VVN country organizations.
