Karl Friedrich Kremser (born August 3, 1945 in Salzwedel ) is a former German / American American football player and football coach . He played as a kicker in the National Football League (NFL) with the Miami Dolphins .

youth

Karl Kremser was born in Salzwedel. His parents were Reich Germans from Lithuania . His father served in the Wehrmacht in World War II and fought in the Soviet Union . At the end of the Second World War, Karl Kremser's family had to flee westwards from the advancing Red Army . In 1952, his parents emigrated to the United States . The family settled in Levittown , Pennsylvania , where Kremser grew up and attended Woodrow Wilson High School . At home, Kremser spoke German even after the family moved. In his youth he practiced athletics and played soccer .

Player career

After graduating from school in 1964, Karl Kremser initially studied for two years at the United States Military Academy and was active in the local soccer team before moving to the University of Tennessee in 1966 , where he played for the Tennessee Volunteers as a kicker football but also as an athlete was active. In 1969 he won the championship in the Southeastern Conference with his football team . In the same year by the Kremser was Miami Dolphins in the fifth round at the 128th spot drafted . The Dolphins, trained by George Wilson , had an unsuccessful playing year. Wilson was replaced by Don Shula after the 1969 season . Shula, in turn, replaced Kremser with Garo Yepremian during the 1970 season . This fact means the end of Karl Kremser's football career.

After the football career

Karl Kremser initially worked as a physical education teacher at Palm Springs Junior High School and later switched to teaching German at Miami Killian High School , where he also acted as the school team's soccer coach and won the state championship with his team in 1977. From 1977 to 1980 he was a lecturer at Davidson College and then until 2007 as a lecturer at Florida International University . At both College , he also served as football coach and won with the team of the Florida International University twice the championship in the second division of the NCAA .
