Karl Krug (painter)

Karl Krug (born October 10, 1900 in Leipzig ; † March 8, 1983 there ) was a German painter .

After an apprenticeship as a mechanical draftsman, subsequent military service and employment as an industrial technician, Krug studied from 1921 at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art with Alois Kolb and Hans Soltmann . From 1925 study trips to Italy and Schleswig-Holstein took place. In 1930 Krug was awarded the Ernst Keil scholarship from the Leipzig Academy. From 1939 to 1947 he did military service and became a prisoner of war in Norway. In 1943 his studio and all the works of art in it were destroyed. From 1950 to 1965 he worked as a teacher at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art and head of the etching and copper engraving workshop. In 1975 he received the Leipzig City Art Prize .
