Karl Müller (missiologist)

Karl Müller SVD (born January 25, 1918 in Blankenberg , Heilsberg district, East Prussia (Diocese of Warmia); † February 28, 2001 in Sankt Augustin ) was a member of the Steyler Missionare (Society of the Divine Word), theologian , author and expert on the Field of academic missiology .

Life

From 1930 Karl Müller attended the internal Steyler grammar school in the St. Adalbert mission house in Mehlsack , East Prussia, and from 1936 the mission grammar school in the Heilig Kreuz mission house in Neisse , Silesia. In 1937 he entered the novitiate of the Steyler missionaries in the St. Johann mission house near Blönried. From 1938 he studied philosophy and theology at the St. Augustin Missionary Seminary near Bonn . From October 1940 to June 1945, Müller served in the military. After a short imprisonment he was able to continue his studies and was ordained a priest on September 18, 1948 in Sankt Augustin . In 1952 he received his doctorate in missiology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome .

In 1952 he received the professorship for missiology at the mission seminary of St. Augustine . From 1960 to 1962, as the rector of the St. Pius College of the Steyler Missionaries in Munich, he was responsible for the newly established pastoral year of the prospective missionaries. In 1962 Müller earned his doctorate in theology at the Catholic theological faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. From 1962 to 1984 he held various offices (1962–1967 study secretary and then general assistant) in the general administration of his missionary order in Rome. From 1984 until his death he worked again in St. Augustin at the Steyler Mission Research Institute, at the Anthropos Institute, at the Philosophical-Theological College SVD St. Augustin and as a chaplain in the parish Maria-Königin. During this time, Father Karl Müller found the time and energy necessary to publish numerous mission science works and articles.
