Karl Maihoroff

Karl Maihoroff (born May 17, 1955 in Bitburg ) is a German musician , artist and conductor .

Life

After graduating from high school, Maihoroff successfully took part in numerous music competitions. Between 1981 and 1984 he was a scholarship holder of the Brussels Ministry of Culture and between 1982 and 1983 the Dr. Berg Foundation Paris. In 1984 he took part in the Haarlem Organ Competition as one of four finalists . From 1983 to 1986 Maihoroff was Writer in Residence at Dr. Hanns-Simon-Stiftung , in 2004 he received an award from the Nomination Society of Fellows of Harvard University , in 2009 the Future Prize of the Volksbank Rhein-Ahr-Eifel. He was a student of the French organist Olivier Messiaen .

In addition, Maihoroff took on various teaching activities over the years. As early as 1978 he received a teaching position at the University of Koblenz-Landau as the youngest lecturer to date at this university, and in 1983 a visiting professor at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City . In 1994/1995 he ran the Trier script workshop together with the renowned editor Syd Field from Beverly Hills . Since 1999 he has been head of the script and film workshop in Paris . In 2006 he founded the university choir and orchestra of the Collegium musicum in Luxembourg . In 2011/12 he led a composition class in the historical doctoral hall of the Episcopal Seminary in Trier. In 2013 he worked as Artist in Residence in Parma and Klagenfurt .

As a member of the jury of numerous public cultural institutions, Maihoroff is involved in the selection of artist projects and award winners. In the context of lectures and workshops he conveys topics of art and music management. Since neither a North nor a South Korean anthem was played at the Olympics in Korea, he composed a hymn 3000Ri in 2018, which visionarily anticipates the unification of the two countries.
