Karl Muheim

Karl Muheim (born April 19, 1887 in Altdorf ; † February 2, 1954 there , entitled to live in Altdorf) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Muheim attended grammar school in Feldkirch and Freiburg im Üechtland and then studied law at the universities of Bern , Freiburg im Breisgau and Heidelberg . He then worked as an advocate and notary from 1915 . He later owned a law and notary's office in Altdorf.

In 1918 he was appointed to the council elected by Altdorf and was only a year later mayor from 1920 to 1923. was until 1939 he district of Uri and chaired it from 1928 to 1929. The population chose Uri Muheim 1926 in the Senate , elected however, a year later in 1927 he was released again. Four years later he was elected to the National Council in 1931 and had a seat there until 1947.

As the successor to Martin Gamma from Uri , he led the free-thinking opposition in the canton. Muheim's deselection from the Council of States provoked demands from the population for the abolition of the Landsgemeinde.

After the fogging disaster of the Swiss army in 1940, when a poisonous fog was tested and contaminated cattle and hay, Karl Muheim campaigned for the removal of the environmental damage. The motion he submitted to the National Council brought this catastrophe to the nationwide public.
