Teaching and Research

His courses covered the areas of film history and film theory as well as the history of television and television aesthetics . His individual preference, however, was and still is for film and photography , especially the scientific consideration of camera work and camera analysis. The students particularly valued the extraordinary enthusiasm with which he expressed his great interest in these media in his lectures. In addition, he was committed to a film culture as diverse as possible in the department. For this he worked regularly with the Marburg Filmkunst-Kino so that the film viewing events offered could at least partly take place under cinema-screen conditions. Wherever it came about, he was also happy to invite filmmakers to talk to his seminar participants.

In 2011 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon .

further activities

In addition to reviews for specialist magazines, Karl Prümm occasionally writes for national newspapers, especially for the FAZ and for the Berliner Tagesspiegel . As far as expertise in film and television aesthetics is required in broadcasting, as a specialist he is sometimes a discussion partner, mostly for WDR and Deutschlandfunk .

The Marburg Camera Talks , which take place every year in March, were launched on his initiative in 2001 . The Marburg Camera Prize awarded there is the most important media science award for cameramen in Germany. Until his retirement in 2010, Karl Prümm organized this event together with his employees and the Culture Service of the City of Marburg and was able to secure its continuity by winning sponsors.
