from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Rothe (born August 14, 1891 in Culm; died August 21, 1944 in Königsberg) was a German landowner in Tollmingkehnen ( East Prussia ), a racing rider and horse breeder.

family

Karl Rothe was the youngest of three children of the doctor and landowner Otto Rothe (1856–1936) and his wife Grete, b. Zarniko (1865-1944). Otto Rothe was initially a military doctor and then a general practitioner in Culm. After the death of his father-in-law he gave up his profession as a doctor and took over his mill, the associated farm in Goldap and the Tollmingkehnen estate in 1904 after the owner, his wife's brother, had died without an heir. In 1908, after the death of his wife's aunt, he also took over the nearby Samonienen estate .

Karl Rothe married the daughter of the doctor Walter Stoeckel and had 8 children with her. His eldest son was Otto Rothe , who took part in the Olympic Games as a rider in 1952 and 1956.

Life

Karl Rothe attended school in Insterburg and passed the Abitur there. He completed his military year with the First Dragoons in Tilsit. He then did an agricultural apprenticeship and completed an agricultural degree in Halle and Berlin. He participated in the First World War as a soldier. After his return he bought the Samonienen estate from his father , which he managed until his death.

In addition to farming, he was an active show jumping and dressage rider and rode obstacle races . He achieved second place with his horse Luchs in the Von der Goltz cyclo- cross hunting race, Trakehnen / Insterburg, from 1925.

breed

Karl Rothe had a great influence on the Trakehner breed. He delivered hundreds of remonts to the army. Horses like pearl fishermen , Balte , Kronos , absinthe and owls emerged from his breeding .

Balte was sold to the Netherlands and renamed King of Hearts there . Under this name, he won the gold medal in eventing with the Dutch team at the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 under Antonius Colenbrander .

Kronos was in 1936 at the Olympic Games in Berlin under Heinz Pollay in the individual and with the team Olympic champion in dressage. The black Kronos was born to Eule in 1928, his father was Carol. Kronos received his basic training from Karl Rothe. Later Kronos came to Otto Lörke , who further promoted him and finally made Heinz Pollay available.

Absinthe won the individual silver medal under Friedrich Gerhard in Berlin in 1936 and the gold medal in dressage riding with the team. The black Absinthe, born in 1926, was a three-quarter brother of Kronos. His father was Carol, his mother Estrella was a daughter of Eule.

Estrella (* 1919) and Eule (* 1912) come from the Samonian E-mare family. Rothe's father already raised Eule's mother Eudoxia (* 1902) and grandmother Eusebia (* 1880). The dark brown owl was not only a valuable broodmare who produced thirteen foals, including a state premium mare, but also a successful eventing horse. Unfortunately, the E-family was lost in the war .

The black Perlenfischer (* 1933) was a breeding stallion whose numerous offspring can be found all over the world today. For example, the Canadian pearl fisherman, sorcerer, provided offspring in America.
