Karl Schwedhelm (writer)

Karl Schwedhelm (* 1915 in Berlin ; † 1988 in Braunsbach- Steinkirchen (Schwäbisch Hall)) was a German literary journalist, poet , translator , essayist and editor .

Life

Schwedhelm studied modern German literary history . He was used as a soldier in World War II . From 1947 he was a lecturer at Süddeutscher Rundfunk . From 1955 to 1978 he headed its literature department. Since 1973 Schwedhelm was a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz .

Schwedhelm maintained professional and private contacts with almost all of the important German-speaking writers from the 1950s to the 1970s. a. to Gottfried Benn , Paul Celan , Claire Goll , Wilhelm Lehmann and Nelly Sachs . Because of its importance for the cultural, literary and media history of its time, Schwedhelm's correspondence was partly edited and published within the Schwedhelm edition of the Rimbaud Verlag .

Schwedhelm died in 1988.
