Karl Selig (born August 27, 1889 in Quedlinburg ; † April 19, 1945 there ) was a German National Socialist politician. In the 9th electoral term in 1933 he represented the NSDAP in the German Reichstag and from 1934 to 1945 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Quedlinburg.

Life

Selig attended the nine-grade middle school in his hometown until 1904. He then completed a three-year apprenticeship in a wholesale company and attended the commercial college in Quedlinburg. As a merchant he settled in Oranienbaum . He became a member of the NSDAP on February 1, 1931 (membership number 429.053). He became a member of the Anhalt State Parliament and in 1933 a member of the Reichstag. At the same time he was NSDAP local group and district leader. Selig ran again in the Reichstag election on March 29, 1936, but received no more mandate. From 1939 onwards, Selig was also a member of the SS (membership number 340 785), where he became a Sturmbannführer .

Selig was shot dead by the Allied occupation officer in the town hall on April 19, 1945 when he was handing over the office of mayor. This "execution" happened without a legal basis and attempts were made to cover up this murder and declared it as "suicide". However, administrative staff informed the public about this act. The case had no legal consequences for the perpetrator.
