Karl Seydel (physician)

Karl Seydel (born May 28, 1839 in Chelchen, Lyck district , East Prussia , † November 15, 1912 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German obstetrician and forensic doctor.

Life

Seydel first studied medicine at the Albertus University in Königsberg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1858 he was reciprocated in the Corps Teutonia Bonn . After he was still at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin had been, it was 1861 in Königsberg to Dr. med. PhD . Habilitated private lecturer for obstetrics since 1868 , he also received the Venia legendi for forensic medicine in 1886 . In 1891 he was appointed professor at the new, fifth professorship in forensic medicine in the Kingdom of Prussia . In 1894 Seydel was appointed to the Secret Medical Council.

“The interest in forensic medicine, which in Prussia was noticeably low in contrast to the other civilized states of Europe, seems to be increasing a bit in the very recent times. The mainspring in favor of the discipline, which has now largely receded into the background alongside the practical clinical subjects and hygiene, is probably the recognition that a lack of training can have serious consequences not only for the civil servant doctor ... [so that] the public prosecutor publicly complained about the lack of training of several doctors in forensic medicine. "
